Abstract:

The right to development is comprised of both national and international dimensions and highlights the right of people to possess all human rights through developmental processes. Such a significant aim differentiates the right to development from other instances of human rights. All national and international elements are supposed to cooperate regarding the right to development. The present study is intended to put emphasis on the role and cooperation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in implementing the right to development in Iran regarding the fact that the international system is no longer state-centered and it rather makes use of different players who can be taken as a complement to the state. The main question that the present study has tried to answer is the role of UNDP in implementing the right to development and whether it has been successful in performing its activities in Iran or not. The central focus of the multilateral attitude of the UNDP is the declaration of the right to development. It has also emphasized constant development and human security which are complements to the right to development. This program suggested some educational programs and local procedures and technical assistance in order to decrease the influence of obstacles that hinder the processes of development and destroy the countries which are not prepared. The UNDP of Iran increases the national self-reliance by suggesting some patterns and area-based development programs through boosting managerial abilities and technical specialties of individuals and national institutes that succeeded as a result of education and implementation. The UNDP as United Nations’ global network of development has harmonized the national and global attempts to achieve millennium developments goals. It has also boosted the abilities of the countries in achieving millennium development goals, improving economical programs, managing natural disasters, training how to prevent epidemic diseases, protecting the environment, and managing crises.

Abstract:

The purpose of this article was to investigate the relationship between education and inequality in countries. Only the relationship between these two variables were considered and the mechanism and its effects was not studied. This research was based on quantitative comparative method between countries. United Nations Development Program data in 2015 related to 5 education indicators including adult literacy rate, expected years of education, average years of education, population with at least secondary education, and inequality in education, and 3 inequality indices including income inequality, gender inequality and human inequality were analyzed. A total of 173 countries were examined. Cluster analysis categorized countries in five education indicators including four profiles of poor, medium, good, and very good education. It also clustered them into three inequality indicators such as four profiles of high, medium, low, and very low inequality. The regression analysis also showed that five education indicators explain 9% of the variance of income inequality, 77% of the variance of gender inequality, and 79% of the variance of human inequality.

Abstract:

The concept of development has changed over periods of time and gained momentum particularly after the end of WWII. The establishment of the United Nations (UN) brought about a new dimension to this concept in international relations. In other words, the development then came into a concrete meaning, mostly understood as economic growth and one-sided process dominating the functioning of the UN and relations among the States during the Cold War. Although, the issue has gone through many changes and phases in the context of the UN, yet the end of the Cold War and the emergence of globalization are considered as turning points in bringing about a whole new idea, giving development a multi-dimensional meaning and becoming a multitude process under the framework of Sustainable Development which eventually led the UN to play a proactive role unlike the past. This paper tries to study and analyse the fact that how the concept of development has qualitatively changed under the UN auspices and the emergence of globalization in order to offer a better understanding of the changing role of the UN in the realization of sustainable development and future nature of international system.

Abstract:

The concept of sustainable development was explained against the indiscriminate use of natural resources, and in the definition, it is said to be a development that guarantees the fulfillment of the needs of the present generation without jeopardizing the abilities of the future generation to fulfill their needs. But during semantic evolution, sustainable development in economic, social and environmental protection dimensions has covered a wider scope. What is clear in the documents of the United Nations conferences on environment and development is the important and extended origin of sustainable development, its goals and objectives and its implementation strategies. In these documents, how to achieve the goals and objectives of sustainable development in coherent forms in the form of cooperation between countries and the governments have been crystallized and the agendas of the United Nations conferences have determined and drawn the executive solutions to advance the ideals and goals. In the documents of the United Nations Conferences, the change in the ideals and goals of sustainable development is visible, as effective variables such as the acceptance of the position of interstate negotiations in determining goals, the necessity of universality of goals and a balanced approach to the three dimensions of sustainable development have been included in the compilation of the document. In this document, the implementation methods of the ideals and goals and strategies for the realization of sustainable development in the form of the national responsibility of the governments that are in harmony with their international obligations through the enabling international environment in fields such as global trade, financial and monetary systems and access to Knowledge and technology are supported.

Abstract:

The high rate of economic growth, the provision of basic facilities, and job creation are products of any nation’ s level of industrialisation. Globally, no nation is considered to have attained a concerted level of a high standard of living in the absence of economic development. However, Nigerian industrialisation has continued on a downward journey in the 21st century despite several industrial development policies. The paper is an attempt to find out how industries have fared and challenges facing their development in Nigeria in the 21st century. It is also an effort to unearth whether UNIDO has influenced Nigeria industrial development. The study adopted a descriptive research design and documentary data analysis method to elucidate the fact that the UNIDO supports have not significantly impacted industrialisation in Nigeria. The adoption of Top-Down as a theoretical model of analyses has validated the fundamental issues raised, informed the findings and subsequent recommendations of this paper.

Abstract:

Background: Evaluating the malaria status of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries relation to goal 6 of 3rd Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which includes have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria. Methods: By 2009, we reviewed the MDGs reports, extracted the data from surveillance system, published, and unpublished data. The main stakeholders, from both governmental and international organizations in the country have been visited and interviewed by the research team as part of the data validation process. Results: The malaria incidence is very heterogeneous among ECO countries, which differ less than 200 cases in total country in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan to 82, 564 cases (2, 428/100,000) in Afghanistan and 59, 284 cases (881/100,000) in Pakistan and about 18/100,000 in Iran in 2008. Malaria has been a major public health problem in Pakistan and Afghanistan and will continue to pose serious threat to millions of people due to poor environmental and socioeconomic conditions conducive to the spread of disease. The main malaria endemic areas of Iran are in southeastern part of the country; consist of less developed provinces that are bordered in the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are little valid information about proportion of population in malaria-risk areas using effective malaria prevention and treatment measures indicators. Conclusion: All ECO countries could achieve MDGs malaria indicators by 2015 except Pakistan and Afghanistan, unless preparing urgent intervention programs to fulfill the goals.
